Sat Receiver Mit Ci Plus Slot
I've just ordered a Panasonic TX32 LXD70 for my entertainment room, which I currently have a sky box with freesat card in.
I also have a separate satelite dish which goes into another room of the house (my Dad installed this) and the freesat channels are available there via a DSR4000 reciever.
The new TV has a Common Interface (CI) slot. After much digging and finding confusing answers I'm totally lost.
Can I put my freesat card into this CI slot and recieve the channels without needing the sky box?
Do I need a CAM first, and if so, can I get one which works with the freesat card?
Are both dishes pointed at the same satelite and if so, why does the other reciever not need a card?
I know I could just use the sky box, yet it would be nice to not have a separate box. The TV includes a freeview tuner, yet I don't have a coaxiel ariel into this room.
If anyone can suggest the tidiest solution for me, I would be very grateful!
Thanks
Andy L
The card fits in the Cam module and the CAM fits in the CAM ( or CI ) slot in the receiver. To test if the card is the right way up, go to the main menu and find the CI menu section, if the card is correct the receiver will have read the information from the card and will usually display the card type eg conax, cryptoworks etc. Thinking of looking for a box capable of watching the German HD+ channels. For this you need a box with a CI+ slot for their CAM and card. Did not find the TM site helpful here:(. They do not seem to state in their specs whether the boxes that have CI slots support CI+ CAMs. Mode of operation. A DVB receiver may have one or two slots implementing the Common Interface (CI). The CI uses the conditional-access module connector and conforms to the Common Scrambling Algorithm (CSA), the normative that specifies that such a receiver must be able to accept DES (Data Encryption Standard) keys in intervals of some milliseconds, and use them to decode private channels.
