Ready for one of the weirdest hands of poker you’ll ever witness, starring actor/comedian Kevin Hart at the center of it? With a twist ending that’s straight out of Hollywood?
Good. Here’s what went down during a recent PokerStars Championship Cash Challenge:
Viktor 'Isildur1' Blom is the natural place to start when discussing the most amazing runs in highstakes online cash game poker. The Swede blasted his way through the ranks as an anonymous. The World Series of Poker was only in its seventh year in 1976, yet it featured one of the most memorable hands of all time. While heads-up in the Main Event against Jesse Alto, Doyle “Texas Dolly”.
Let’s break it down: Hart called with a King-3 of spades, and Mila Monroe somehow decides to raise with a 6 of spades and 2 of clubs, which is a big bluff. Hart decides to call.
The flop is a 10 of hearts, Queen of spades and 5 of clubs, which gives neither player anything to work with. Monroe bets 400 and Hart calls. The two chatter at each other right before the turn, which is an Ace of hearts. Hart has a straight draw, but Monroe sticks with her bluff and bets 700. Hart calls, apparently hoping for a Jack for a straight.
But a 10 shows up in the river and Monroe does what she should at this point: She throws in a big bet of 1,200, continuing to represent a big hand. Hart, with the best hand at King high (although he doesn’t know that, stay tuned), actually raises.

So Monroe goes all in. Hart decides to call … and that’s when things get crazy.
Hart flips over his cards and declares he has a straight. Except he doesn’t, which would be an awful way to lose … until he realizes that he ACTUALLY WON THE HAND BASICALLY BY ACCIDENT.
So he does something pretty amazing: He gives her 15,000 in chips to keep her in the game, which is wonderful and a beautiful way to end one of the nuttiest hands of poker ever.
And just so you don’t think I’m overselling it, poker legend Daniel Negreanu said it might be “the greatest televised hand in the history of poker.”
Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier is all the rage at the World Series of Poker, having made one of the biggest prop bets of the summer after offerring 3-to-1 odds on winning a bracelet.
Now, the spotlight shines even brighter. On Thursday, PokerStars announced that a hand featuring Mercier was voted the Greatest Ever Poker Hand in the History of PokerStars.
A panel of the poker industry’s media voices, including us here at PokerNews.com, weighed in with their opinions on the best hand as an alternative selection to the public vote, which remains open until June 10 at the PokerStars YouTube channel.
Twenty-two hands were given as options and the winner was The One Where Jason Mercier Arrives, which took place at the final table of the European Poker Tour San Remo event in 2008. The No. 1 voted hand featured Mercier, relatively unknown at the time, making a hero-call on the river of a board with only bottom pair holding to eliminate Erik Koskas. The incredible call brought Mercier to stardom as he took down the EPT San Remo €4,700 buy-in event for €869,000 — his first ever live cash.
A hand featuring Phil Hellmuth titled, The One Where Phil Hellmuth Runs It Four Times, finished a close second. The hand from the PokerStars Big Game saw the Hellmuth get his chips all-in on a flop with against Ernest Wiggins'. Both players tabled their hands and after some discussion, the two agreed to run the turn and river card four times. Run one went and , giving Hellmuth a full house. Run two ran was , giving Wiggins a full house. The third run showed a , for a four-card flush guaranteeing Wiggins at least half the pot. Then, on the final run, a completed the boards to give Wiggins win three out of the four runs, and three quarters of the pot.
There is still a chance to participate in a public vote by visiting the PokerStars YouTube channel by June 10. As part of a promotion for PokerStars' 100 Billionth Hand Celebration, Team PokerStars Pros Daniel Negreanu, Lex Veldhuis, and Liv Boeree will select one hand from the three most popular.
